With the mission of further promoting transparency in public spending, the Federal Government has acted firmly to increase social control and enforce lawful and ethical practices within the Public Administration domain. The active participation of society is essential to guarantee the optimal use of public resources. As part of this mission, it offers citizens Public Transparency Pages, facilitating knowledge and control over the usage of resources coming from tax contribution.

Management of these Public Transparency Pages is regulated by Executive Law 5482 (Decreto nº 5.482, de 30 de junho de 2005), from June 30 2005, and by the Inter-ministerial Decree 140 (Portaria Interministerial nº 140, de 16 de março de 2006), from March 16 2006, which determine data and information disclosure by the Federal Public Administration on the Internet. Such legislation also assigns the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management (MPOG) and the General Controller Office (CGU) responsibility for managing the Pages. MPOG, in charge of the visual design, defined the present style of Public Transparency Pages. CGU has the responsibility of periodically updating Transparency Pages with data available on Federal Government systems (SIAFI, SIASG, SIEST and SCDP) and also those sent electronically by entities not integrated in the systems.

Public Transparency Pages present data related to expenses incurred by all bodies and entities within the Federal Government, both from Indirect and Direct Administration, with information about budget execution, public bids, contracting, daily allowances and travel tickets.

Part of the set of governmental measures to increase social control, Public Transparency Pages complement the information available at the Transparency Portal (Portal da Transparência).
